North East Cross Country Women’s Championships 14th December 2019 – Alnwick Pastures
A historic day in the short history of Jesmond Joggers on a cold and windy Northumberland day saw the women’s team bring home the club’s first Championship medal.
With Molly and Laura pushing themselves to within grasp of selection to the North East County team for the Inter Counties, it was the rest of the JJ women who all pushed themselves to back up the performances of Molly Pace and Laura Cheetham.
Molly was 9th with Laura 12th. With everyone having the run of a lifetime, it was Hannah Marshall and Kate Elizabeth Robson who made up the scoring 4 but evergreens Jo King and Kate Black were pushing hard to keep other clubs down. Alice Brocklehurst continued her good run of form with an outstanding run and Megan and newly crowned Runner of the Year, Emily Pass, getting inside the top 100. Really good to see Katie Hunter and Hannah Fishburn making their club debuts.We beat clubs such as Morpeth, Gateshead and Sunderland, clubs much larger than ours.
An amazing day with absolute joy for the women. The first four women received the medals, but it was the rest of the team that backed them up.
Only 5 years ago we had 5 women who made up the JJs XC team. Now we get at least 15 out each XC race.
It’s so good to see the amount of women pushing themselves to improve and get out on a regular basis. To win a Championship medal is truly outstanding.
